Smt. Debasree Mukherjee, IAS, Secretary, MSDE, visits Don Bosco Technical Institute, Kolkata

KOLKATA, 16 October, 2025 – In a significant endorsement of private sector contributions to India's skilling ecosystem, Smt. Debasree Mukherjee, IAS, Secretary of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), made an impromptu visit to Don Bosco Technical Institute in Park Circus on Thursday, praising its industry-aligned training and focus on employable youth. Accompanied by a high-level delegation, the Secretary highlighted the institute's role in empowering underprivileged students amid her maiden tour to the city after assuming office.

The visit, arranged at short notice during Mukherjee's official itinerary to the Central Staff Training and Research Institute (CSTARI), National Skill Training Institute (NSTI) in Howrah, and various government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), aimed to provide her with firsthand insights into non-governmental skilling initiatives. The delegation included key officials such as Sh. S. Sreenivas Naik, Deputy Director General; Sh. Naval Kishore Arora, Regional Director; Sh. T. Ragulan, Director of CSTARI; Sh. Manish Mishra, Deputy Director; Sh. K. V. S. Narayana, Training Officer; and Sh. Bikram Kumar Das from the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).

Upon arrival, the team was warmly welcomed by the institute's management and faculty. Discussions centered on Don Bosco's practical training methodologies, with the Secretary expressing keen interest in the hands-on approach, industry-linked curriculum, and emphasis on discipline and employability skills. She interacted directly with students from various trades, observing their practical sessions and evaluating the training infrastructure.

Mukherjee encouraged the students to seize available opportunities and continually upgrade their skills to adapt to the evolving job market. She particularly appreciated their confidence and communication abilities, crediting the institute's holistic development model for fostering these traits.

The delegation commended the high quality of training, state-of-the-art laboratories, and the instructors' unwavering commitment. Mukherjee specifically highlighted Don Bosco's efforts in skilling underprivileged youth and its longstanding partnership in advancing the national skilling mission, calling it a model for private ITIs.

The visit underscored Don Bosco Technical Institute's enduring impact on technical education, reaffirming its position as a key player in building a skilled workforce for India's future.
